Riverdale Primary School
The Urbanhills team worked together with Riverdale Primary School staff, students and community to transform a disused paved bicycle storage area and overgrown garden into an interactive native garden and play space.
The new area features a huge yarning circle, informal seating, native plantings, bush tucker garden and a lush green lawn.
Formally opened with a Smoking Ceremony last November, the garden is now well established and providing educational and aesthetic benefits for the school and community.
Surrey Downs Primary School
In 2024, Urbanhills were given the opportunity to assist Surrey Downs Primary School staff with preparation of a written proposal, site plan and documentation to apply for a Green Adelaide Grassroots Grant.
Several months later, we were delighted to hear that the grant was successful and the garden would come to life, albeit in a new location due to building upgrades.
Once a bare patch next to the playground, this area now boasts a large yarning circle, interconnecting paths, informal seating, native plantings and bush tucker garden nestled in the shade of a large gum tree.
We can’t wait to watch this garden grow with the seasons!
Mitchell Park and south Port Preschools
Sandpits provide hours of enjoyment in preschools and are the favoured spot on summer days when water play is incorporated into the play space.
Recent improvements at South Port Preschool by the Urbanhills team provided a larger sandpit space, outdoor kitchen, bike path and graduated ramp to increase accessibility of the sandpit and provide a place for washing sandy feet.
Similar improvements at Mitchell Park Kindergarten involved the removal of long-buried timber logs and replacement of degraded log edging with large rocks.
A hardstand area was added under the large tree to provide a shady space for rest and creative play in the warmer months.
